Ben Lambert
A little about me. I’ve been involved in various aspects of software engineering for the last 15 years. In that time, I’ve used a lot of different programming languages, frameworks, operating systems, cloud platforms, and DevOps tools. For the last couple years I’ve been focused creating content on a variety of different topics, such as: cloud platforms, DevOps, Serverless, Security and more. So that’s a little about my work history. On a more personal note: I like to hike; I like hack; I like to read comic books; I enjoy philosophy; I also enjoy drawing, though, admittedly, I’m not very good at it. However, you may see some of my scribbles in my courses. I started creating content because I really enjoy teaching. And the only way I’ll get better as a teacher, is by hearing from students. So feel free to reach out sometime!

A note, from me the course author, to you the student.

For the last few days I’ve been at Google Next 2018. I’ve met a lot of students and several future students. One of the things that I noticed was the Google created the Google Cloud Certified- Associate Cloud Engineer exam due to the demand. Talking with everyone at the booth made it clear that this is something you all are eager to have.
So that’s why we’ve decided to do a rolling release of this course. It’s not 100% complete. However, it’s going to get you started. And perhaps the best part is that it’s still early enough in the process that your feedback can really help shape the upcoming lessons!

I hope you all enjoy taking this course as much as I’m enjoying creating it.

This course is designed to not only help you pass the Google Cloud Certified- Associate Cloud Engineer exam, but also to learn the real-world skills need to be a cloud engineer.
This course loosely follows the domain objectives outlined in the certification info. However, instead of just walking you through each bullet point and showing how that particular item works, without any context, we’ve chosen to use a scenario.

In this scenario, you’ve been hired by a startup called Find Seller. They're working on an app that allows users to post a picture of an item and tag it as something they want to buy or sell. They’re having trouble getting funded because currently all of their technology resides on the developers laptops. And they don’t have any idea how to move to the cloud. That’s where you and I enter the scenario. You’ve been hired as a junior cloud operations engineer, and I’ll be working as a senior cloud engineer. I’ll be mentoring you as we’re assigned tasks from our boss. And we’ll go through the process of deploying and maintaining the application.

Here are some of the areas of focus:

  • Set up a cloud solution environment?
  • Plan and configure a cloud solution?
  • Deploy and implement a cloud solution?
  • Ensure successful operation of a cloud solution?
  • Configure access and security?

By the end of this course you should be ready to pass the Google Cloud Certified- Associate Cloud Engineer Exam.
