Installing and Using htop

Introduction

In this lab, we'll install htop, a resource utilization utility, and use it to look at system resource utilization. We'll also use it to identify an active process and kill that process.

Solution

Open a terminal, and log in via SSH to the cloud server using the provided credentials.

Install htop

  1. To install htop, run the following command:

    sudo apt-get install -y HTOP

Kill the Xtightvnc Process through htop

  1. Start htop:

    sudo htop
  2. Scroll the highlighted row to the Xtightvnc service.

  3. Press F9.

  4. Hit ENTER to send the kill command.

  5. Once the process is killed, it will disappear from the htop interface.
