He provides training in Linux, VMWare, DevOps (Ansible, Jenkins, etc) as well as containers and AWS topics. He now leads the Training Architects to produce the courses and content we all know and love!

Course Details

In this course, we'll go over how to discover, assess, plan, and implement a migration of on-premises resources and infrastructure to Azure. We'll also explore how to use Azure Migrate to perform the discovery and assessment phase that is critical to a successful migration, as well as how to use Azure Site Recovery for performing the actual migration of workloads to Azure. Finally, we'll go over how to use Azure Migrate to complete an assessment of the on-premises machines to make sure they are able to migrate into the Azure cloud with a focus on the readiness of the virtual machines, discovering the VM sizing for the machines migrating into Azure, and the estimated monthly costs.

Learning outcomes:

Use Azure Migrate to discover and assess on-premises virtual machine migration to Azure. Use Azure Site Recovery to migrate Hyper-V infrastructures to Azure. Review migration strategies for Hyper-V virtual machines.

This video provides a brief overview of the course tools available, including the course scheduler, hand-on labs, practice exams, and community.

About the Book of Nephele

Lesson Description:

This video provides a brief introduction to the interactive diagram, Book of Nephele. It explains how to use the diagram throughout the course and why the name "Book of Nephele" was used for the diagram. The Book of Nephele:

Cloud Migration Planning

Migration Goals

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we discuss the different goals a client may have when considering migrating to the Azure cloud.

Migration Phases

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we discuss the three main phases for the migration process (Discover, Migrate, and Optimize).

Migration Process

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we discuss the basic architecture of the Azure Migrate service and offer a brief overview of the process.

Azure Migrate Service

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we will discuss the Azure Migrate service, the steps for Azure Migrate, and the restrictions to consider when using it.

Using Azure Migrate Tools

Creating a Project

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we cover the steps to create a project within the Azure portal. We will also revisit the mission to get a preview of the upcoming tasks we will be working on for the rest of this domain/section. Finally, we will discuss the differences between Azure Migrate 2.0 and the current version of Azure Migrate.

Creating a Collector

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we cover the instructions for downloading the appliance for the collector virtual machine. We also discuss the instructions for importing this virtual machine into Hyper-V and get it configured so it can scan the on-premises environment for virtual machines to migrate.

Azure Migrate Server Assessment Report

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we discuss the steps to review the server assessment report within the Azure portal. We also offer a general overview of the details within the report. For more specific information, there is a follow-up lesson that goes more in depth.

Reviewing Readiness, VM Sizing, and Determining Costs

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we discuss the assessment report generated from Azure Migrate. We'll cover the main components in the report:Readiness VM sizing Costs

Azure Site Recovery

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we give an overview of Azure Site Recovery, including the scenarios when we would use it. Additionally, we discuss the main features of Azure Site Recovery:Eliminates the need for disaster recovery sites Reduces infrastructure costs Automatically replicates to Azure Safeguards against outages of complex workloads Extends or boosts capacity Continuous health monitoring

Setting Up the Infrastructure

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we discuss how to set up the Virtual Network and Recovery Vault for the purposes of setting up Azure Site Recovery. We also cover the main components for initial setup and how they relate to Azure Site Recovery, including:Storage Networking Permissions

Azure Site Recovery Infrastructure Configuration

Lesson Description:

In this lesson, we discuss the steps to configure the infrastructure in the Azure portal for Azure Site Recovery. We go into detail on how to set up the source, target, replication settings, and the deployment planning.
