Setting up guest additions on virtualbox Ubuntu server

Hello,

I am trying to set up guest additions on an ubuntu server virtual machine i have on my virtual box.

I have followed this article

https://virtualzero.net/blog/how-to-install-virtualbox-guest-additions-in-ubuntu-server-18.04-lts

After the reboot I still can't get my window to become full screen. Is there an article or a series of steps someone might have used to set this up properly and I can give that a try?

Right now when i go to devices and insert guest additions i see this error.

Under strorage i have this:

Please let me know if i can give any more information to help troubleshoot this.

Thank you.

It's hard to make out the error screenshot.  Which version of VirtualBox are you running?  Make sure it's the latest.

You might want to take a look at this guide from the Ubuntu documentation:

Thanks!

Hi Tom,

Here is the error:Unable to insert the virtual optical disk C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxGuestAdditions.iso into the machine UbuntuServer_SVV.

Could not mount the media/drive 'C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxGuestAdditions.iso' (VERR_PDM_MEDIA_LOCKED).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ConsoleWrap
Interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}
Callee: IMachine {85632c68-b5bb-4316-a900-5eb28d3413df}

I have updated to the latest version of virtualbox.

The steps i followed looking at a video are:

1. make a directory called cdrom1 inside /media
2. mounted /dev/cdrom to /media/cdrom1
3. ran ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
4. rebooted the system

However, even after this my window won't resize to full screen.

Any troubleshooting tips are appreciated.

Thanks,

TJ.
