Passed the AWS Developer Associate with 96% - My experience
I passed my certification today so things are still fresh in mind. Thanks to Linux Academy and our mentor Fernando Medina.
I would like to share my journey to the first step into AWS world, it may help someone.
As many others I used the Dev Associate Course on LA and ACG both. For mock tests I used Whizlabs and Udemy prep questions (Later found out that both were copy of each other so either one will be good). I also spent good amount of time on the documentation of key topics like S3, DynamoDB, Elastic Beanstalk, Lambda, API Gateway, and basics of CloudFormation + ECS. Given I have experience with AWS, especially ECS/ECR/EC2 so that helped a lot.
For people who are looking for score, mock tests will only cover 20-25% of similar questions which will appear in the exam. Both of these courses will give you a good base to reach to the level of 60-70%. Rest is all on you. You should have practical experience or hands on knowledge to confidently sit there and complete the exam. I have seen people who have never worked on AWS but still have scored good marks to clear the certification, but they were all not confident enough during the exam.
What was covered:
As I am bound with the legal clauses so cannot disclose any content directly. But i found that more than 25% of questions were real world scenario based problems and they were tricky. Though there were minor hints which you will be able to find if you have good understanding. I got good number of questions on S3/DynamoDB/API Gateway and Lambdas as expected.
I also got some questions on EC2 instance types and their pricing which was not expected much. There were few on Kinesis Streams too, so be prepared with those, i did not cover them in depth but having its understanding will be brownie points. No questions on XRay/CloudTrail were seen.
Whats next, I have already covered lot of SAA topics, but with today's experience i feel i need to spend more time on core concepts as I felt that I was not 100% sure about few questions. I might be going for it in another 2-3 weeks time.
Wish other aspiring members good luck for their exams. All the best.
