Setfacl/Octal Permissions Question

Below is the file ACL for 'testfile:'[user@jwickenhofer1 RHCSA]$ getfacl testfile

# file: testfile

# owner: user

# group: user

user::r--

user:user:rw-

user:starbuck:rwx

group::r--

mask::rwx

other::---

When I run ls -l, I get the following:

-r--rwx---+ 1 user user 5 Sep 10 09:33 testfile

Why are the group octal permissions showing as rwx when the file acl is showing read only? The above two outputs were retrieved back to back with no changes in between.

Hi Jake, when using ACLs, it is important to remember that they are separate from the standard permissions. In fact, ACLs are additive to standard permissions and will take precedence over standard permissions whenever they contradict each other. You can quickly identify which files and directories have ACLs applied by noticing the "+" at the end of the standard permissions.
