Today I managed to pass the Certified Developer Associate exam and the Certified Solutions Architect Associate exam!
I took the developer exam in the morning and received a satisfying 92%! In the afternoon I took the SA exam which I passed, haven't received any marks from Amazon just yet. Important note is that I took the new Solutions Architect exam (post februari 2018)and not the 'old' exam.
As it can be of some help / insight to others: I've been working with AWS professionaly for 4 years now. This obviously gave me a good head start but I really benefited from the courses by Thomas and Christophe. I personally find that real life experience is required to really get it and that a course is required to prep you for an exam.
Besides the LA courses I read plenty of whitepapers and documentation where I felt my knowledge was lacking. Something that always strikes me is that even though you may think you really know something, RTFM is something you should still do ;-) With regards to the new Solutions Architect exam: I spent a couple of hours going through the Well-Architected framework with all its pillars and relevant whitepapers. While I did find this very interesting and helpful in the projects I'm currently doing, they were of no real help for the SA exam.
For me the Developer exam was much easier than the Solutions Architect exam. Not so much because of the content or material required to know, but rather the way the questions are asked in the SA exam. While taking the Develop exam I had to read a question and understood it, the Solutions Architect exam had a number of questions that were difficult to understand. This made it more difficult to be certain that my answer was correct.
Let me know if I can answer some questions with regards to the exams!
