Preparing to Take the Certified OpenStack Administrator Exam

OpenStack Summit 2016 Austin

This past week at the OpenStack Summit in Austin Texas I had the privilege of speaking about what it takes to prepare for the OpenStack Foundation’s new Certified OpenStack Administrator exam. I wanted to share with the audience, and now with you, some of the primary steps you need to focus on when becoming a certified professional for administrating OpenStack environments.

What is the Exam?

The Certified OpenStack Administrators Exam (or COA) is a virtual exam that can be taken anywhere virtually online. It is a performance-based exam that takes approximately two and a half hours and tests the baseline skills of the candidates on whether or not they are qualified to perform day-to-day operations and management tasks in an OpenStack cloud.

Requirements

Candidates are required to provide their own desktop or laptop, use the Chrome or Chromium browser, have reliable internet access, and use a webcam and microphone to take the exam. The OpenStack environment will be made available for you: You will have a tab for the terminal-based tasks and a tab for Horizon Web GUI tasks.

Services Tested On:

  • Compute (Nova)
  • Dashboard (Horizon)
  • Object storage (Swift)
  • Block Storage (Cinder)
  • Networking (Neutron)
  • Orchestration (Heat)
  • Image management (Glance)
