This is something we’ve been wanting to do for a long time and there were a lot of pieces that had to fall into place first, but we’re finally here.
Welcome back to the app, Community Edition students!
Wondering what Community Edition students are? Get access to our training platform FOR FREE, sign up here.
Get access to all of our free courses, which rotate each month (read about April’s free courses here) and can be easily found using our Advanced Search screen within the app itself:
For those of you that have been with us for a while, you may remember that we had to lock the mobile app usage to paid subscribers only. This was an extraordinarily tough decision to make, but was rooted within authentication issues that prevented the apps from working properly for our CE students. The last thing I want for our students is to limit the tools available to help them learn, but difficult choices are hard for a reason.
But now that it’s open again, we can continue delivering on our promise to deliver more and more features to our mobile apps.
In the App: Community vs Paid
While the mobile app will now forever remain open to all of our students, there are some features that will be exclusive to our paid subscribers. This aligns with what is available on our website, but I went ahead and made this handy-dandy table to help with which features are and aren’t available to our community edition students:
|Watch lessons within course||Only free courses||All courses|
|Take practice exams||Yes||Yes|
|View flash cards||Yes||Yes|
|View study guides||No||Yes|
|Download content (lessons, flash cards, study guides)||No||Yes|
Introducing User Profile for Mobile
In addition to above, we’re introducing User Profile support within the app – now you’ll be able to manage your profile on the go!
With the User Profile, you can manage which skills you have, courses you’ve taken, or certifications you’ve achieved! Once community (aka study groups) is added, you’ll be able to collaborate with other students with similar skill or others looking to achieve the same certifications as yourself!
We’re really excited about the possibilities going forward, and the User Profile is one small step in that direction.
Every month, I like to end my post with what we’re currently working on and what’s out in the horizon. I’m excited to say that we’ve just started on a video player rework for both iOS and Android. The revamp will include support for subtitles and transcripts, along with a much requested feature, the ability to zoom and pan within a video.
We have a bunch of other features planned for this re-work, but I don’t want to spoil all of them… until next month! Stay tuned!
