The New Linux Academy Community is Now Live!

Today marks a BIG day for us at Linux Academy. Lots of hard work has finally paid off with the beta launch of the flagship part of the new community and reputation system. Here are some of the best features of the new community!

Brand New Internal Student Profiles

New student profiles will show everything about you and your expertise. Your study groups, flash cards, Cloud Credentials, professional certifications – you name it, it’s here.

Brand New External Profiles

With external profiles a student can go to “Manage Profile” on the top right by clicking on the account username. There, students will see their public URL.

New Reputation System

What you do and how you contribute and interact with others on the community matters! By clicking on the reputation number students will be able to see what things make up their reputation. They can also upvote and downvote community posts and replies.

Leaderboards

You can’t see them, but they exist. In fact, we’ll have a podcast interview on how we do it here soon. But the reputation and flash card creation are all managed within a leaderboard. Within the next month or so we’ll be adding it to the site so you can see how you rank among your fellow students. Remember, reputation and leaderboard items are really based on contribution. Write some awesome how-tos in the community, create some great flash cards, contribute in a positive manner, and you’ll get some reputation.

Instructor-Approved Items

Yes, if an instructor approves, upvotes or downvotes a students posts or replies the reputation impact is more meaningful. So be sure you’re always contributing in a positive manner and helping fellow students.

Get Their Attention

Use the @ symbol to get people’s attention, including instructors. This creates a notification to be sent via the notification system. (Also works in study groups.)

Get The Most Relevant Information

Students will see posts related to the content they are taking at Linux Academy. It’ll show up on their feed first so it’s more relevant to the content that’s important to them.

Connect

Students can now follow others and their contributions will be presented at a higher level as well.

We’re excited for this new change at Linux Academy and look forward to hearing from our students in the community!
