New Course: LXC/LXD Deep Dive

New Course: LXC/LXD Deep Dive

We just published our latest course, LXC/LXD Deep Dive, by our Course Author, Chad Miller. Chad has many years of experience teaching technical professionals everything from database design to OpenStack and has spoken at conferences on topics ranging from containers to the best way to configure a storage cluster.

The course is divided into six in-depth video segments and runs for a little less than 3 hours.

Who Should Take This Course

The ideal student for this Deep Dive course is someone who has been around Linux for a while and has probably seen a few trends come and go. Maybe you’ve played with Docker and maybe you haven’t, but you’ve certainly heard of containers. In fact, if you’ve already rolled your eyes and thought, “Isn’t this virtual machines all over again?” – this is the perfect course for you!

What You’ll Learn

With all the buzz around containers, you’ll understand what containers really are and how they differ from virtual machines. Why bother with LXD when Docker is everywhere? Learn what the differences between Docker and LXD are, and how can LXD actually be used in real life as opposed to being just another shiny new toy. This course covers the following topics in this sequence:

  • Install and configure LXD
  • Launch and maintain LXC machine containers
  • Create images based on existing container images
  • Create images from scratch
  • Select an appropriate file store for a container and explain the choice
  • Make full use of the LXC built-in network
  • Extend the built-in LXC network to encompass containers on additional nodes
  • Use LXD and other technologies to deploy web servers and a load balancer
  • Use LXD to test backup strategies
  • Use LXD to test a multi-master database such as a Galera cluster
  • Use LXD to deploy a LEMP stack and a php-based microservice
