Azure Lab

Azure Web App Authentication Using Facebook

We deploy the real environment, you take the scenario-based labs on us. Hands-on, from anywhere, at any time.

Time required: 2 Hours

In this lab, you will create a Facebook application that enables Facebook users to log in to an Azure Web App. After you create that Facebook application, you will set up an Azure Web App to authenticate users via that application.

You will see how the settings you apply to your Web App's authentication/authorization affects what a user sees in the Web App, and also see the "claims," or information about a user, that is passed from Facebook to a Web App.

Suggested Pre Requisites

You will need a Facebook account to complete this lab. All tasks will be performed in a web browser.

This lab allows you to use social media logins with Web Apps, via the built-in App Service authentication/authorization provider. You will create a Facebook application for authentication, configure the Web App to use that application, and see the information provided to your Web App via Facebook once a user logs in.

  • Create a Facebook application to allow Facebook users to log in to your Web App.

  • Configure a Web App to use that application to authenticate users.

  • See how configuration options affect when a user must authenticate.

  • See the "claims," or facts about the signed-in user, that are passed from Facebook to the Web App via social media login.
